Meet Operations Manager Jonathan Parris

Jonathan Parris recently joined Star as the Operations Manager in our Atlanta North branch. The Georgia native graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications and possesses extensive experience in the material handling equipment space. What are three words to describe Star?
Diligent, intrepid, and fast-paced.

How do you ensure workplace safety?
By staying vigilant and always looking to find better ways to keep areas clear, clean and safe.

What is your favorite TV show? Who is your favorite character and why?
I love This Old House. Tom Silva is my favorite character—His vast knowledge of his craft, along with his personable demeanor, is a great example of what a leader and teacher should be.

What is your favorite book?
Finishing Strong by Steve Farrar. This is a fantastic book describing what it takes to leave a lasting legacy based on faith.

What do you like to do in your free time?
My wife and I love to hike. We are also huge Atlanta Braves fans. During baseball season, we try not to miss a single game.

What is something people may not know about you?
Many people don’t know that I enjoy playing guitar. Another thing people may not know is that I used to lead worship for Youth Ministries and Christian College Organizations.

What is your greatest fear?
Needing my wallet and realizing I left it at home.

Where is your favorite place to be?
The mountains.

If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would do?
I would pay off all of our family’s debt.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
I would have to say… Glacier National Park, Montana. There is no place more beautiful in this country!

If given a chance, who would you want to be/what would you want to do for a day?
I would want to be a gold miner and mine in the mountains of Alaska.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would love to learn how to race cars.

Who inspires you?
My wife, Paula.

What do you love the most about the transportation industry?
It is fast-paced and always changing.

If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Chicken Parmesan.

What was the first concert you ever attended?
DC Talk at the old Omni in Atlanta, Georgia.

What music genre(s) do you like to listen to?
I like to listen to Country and Classic Rock.

If you could be a TV show character, who would you be and why?
Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead. No matter what problems arise, he stays strong and faithful to protecting those he cares about.

How do you define success?
When the team around you feels trusted and encouraged, that is success. Building strong relationships results in strong bottom lines.

Dog or cat person?
I’m definitely a dog person. Although… I don’t have a dog yet. I’m actively trying to convince my wife!

Decorating for Christmas. My neighbors actually call me “Captain Christmas!
